Limpopo police arrest man hours after he fatally stabs ex-girlfriend

The accused reportedly stabbed the woman during a heated argument, says SAPS.

LIMPOPO – The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the SAPS in Lulekani for their swift response in arresting a 34-year-old man who reportedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend during an argument.

34-year-old Sibongile Nobela was fatally stabbed on Friday (December 31) and the accused was arrested within two hours of the attack, according to police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“It is alleged the suspect accosted the deceased at around 21:00 while she was a premises in Matiko Xikaya village outside Phalaborwa. An argument ensued and he stabbed her several times and then fled the scene on foot.”

The SAPS were called to the scene and the victim was found on the floor. Mojapleo explained that she was bleeding profusely and had already succumbed to her injuries. She was declared dead by paramedics who attended to the scene.

A manhunt for the suspect was launched and the suspect was arrested within two hours of the incident.

Mojapelo explained that soon after the attack the SAPS received information that the suspect had boarded a vehicle en-route to Tzaneen. “The members responded swiftly and the said vehicle was spotted along the R71 road and was pulled off. The suspect was immediately arrested and the alleged murder weapon confiscated.”

The accused will appear in Lulekani Magistrate’s Court on Monday (January 3)on a charge of murder.
