Food parcels distributed to over 300 storm-ravished Limpopo families

Over 300 families from the province were affected by violent storms in the past 48 hours.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo Department of Social Development has dispatched workers to over 300 families across the province which were affected by violent storms in the past 48 hours.

Departmental spokesperson Witness Tiva explained the areas hardest hit include Ellias Motsoaledi, Greater Tzaneen and the Collins Chabane local municipalities, respectively.

“Social workers together with disaster management officials from the Sekhukhune, Mopani and Vhembe district municipalities are working jointly to assist the affected households in the form of food parcels and other basic amenities.”

Sekhukhune District Municipality is the hardest hit with 170 families affected, Mopani with 106 families and six in Vhembe, he explained.

“The department is working in conjunction with the department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs and disaster management officials from the affected districts to ensure that social workers can reach out to all those who have been affected as soon as possible.”

Those that have been displaced are also being provided with temporary accommodation, Tiva concluded.
