LIMPOPO – A total of 2 083 suspects were arrested during the ongoing Safer Festive operations over the Christmas period, said police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo in a statement on Tuesday,
The operations were conducted across all five districts between Monday (December 20) and Monday (December 27).
“The suspects were apprehended for various offences which included murder, robbery, rape, sexual assault, common robbery, robbery with a weapon other than firearm, stock theft, theft of motor vehicle and illegal trading of liquor.”
He added that 1 739 sticks of counterfeit cigarettes, 30 dangerous weapons, 1 551g of dagga, 12 dagga plants, 10g of cocaine powder, 0,8g of Crystal Meth, 22g of Nyaope, 6 firearms, 41 knives, 2 227 086ml of liquor and two stolen vehicles were also confiscated during the arrests.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial police commissioner, commended the men and women in blue for their unrelenting efforts to rid the province of any form of criminality. ‘We thank the communities in the province for continuously assisting the police in the fight against crime,” she concluded.
