Limpopo: 1 534 arrests in 10 days

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said these arrests will ensure a safe and crime-free environment this festive season.

LIMPOPO – The intensified festive season operations being conducted across the province is bearing fruit.

According to a statement by police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the police in the province have managed to make 1 534 arrest since December 12.

“The operations are conducted to ensure the safety of all the citizens of the province and its visitors. The suspects were arrested for various offences that include sexual offences, murder, robberies, assaults, burglaries, fraud, shoplifting, the possession of unlicensed firearms as well as the possession of suspected stolen properties,” he explained.

Mojapelo said besides six stolen motor vehicles and 159 illegal firearms, the police recovered dangerous weapons, drugs, illicit cigarettes and livestock.

“The arrested suspects have already started to appear in various magistrate’s courts across the province and the festive season operations are continuing,” he concluded.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe thanked the police officers for their dedication towards the fight against crime.

“As we are fast approaching the Christmas and New Year period, which is often characterised by family visits and celebrations, arrests and seizures like these will ensure a safe and crime-free environment for everyone,” she said and thanked residents for their support in fighting crime.
