Westenburg elders treated to thanksgiving luncheon

The Patriotic Alliance hosted a thanksgiving luncheon for the elderly in Westenburg.

POLOKWANE – The lovely luncheon was held on December 20 at the Omega Church, and was a great occasion as the elders were treated to a show of dancing, singing and story telling through drama.

Lizell Whitehead, Patriotic Alliance ward 19 councillor candidate, explained the aim of the luncheon was to make the elderly in the community to feel special.

“We wanted to make them feel special as they enjoyed the day that is dedicated to them. We only managed to host a few of them because we didn’t have the finances to cover all the elderly in the community, but we worked with the little that we have,” she said.

Pastor Piet Niemann blessed the guests with the Word of God.

She added that the luncheon is a thanksgiving to round off the year and to thank them for their prayers and wisdom.

“It is important to give back because even the Word of God states that in the council of the elders lies wisdom. Whenever we go through something, we have elders to consult who can pray for us and guide us. Most of the time in communities, we focus on the youth and sometimes we forget about the elders,” she said.
