‘We want our runners back on the track’

Mzansi Athletics Club chairperson Richard Bilisi has urged his members to vaccinate in order for them to return to the track.

POLOKWANE – He said more runners need to vaccinate in order to pave the way for runners to go back to the streets to run official races.

Bilisi addressed the athletes at the club’s year-end function held at Bolivia Lodge on December 4.

“As responsible citizens it is our moral responsibility to encourage people to vaccinate as it is the right thing to do. If there is someone in your family or among your friends who is not vaccinated, I call on you to encourage them to get vaccinated. Vaccination limits the possibilities of severe Covid-19-related illness and hospitalisation,” Bilisi told the athletes.

He extended his condolences to the club members who have lost their loved ones as a result of the virus.

“We are grateful that since the advent of Covid-19, the club has not lost any of its members.

Our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones during the past 12 months, may God guide them through the healing process. It is upon all of us as citizens to fight this pandemic by adhering to all protocols. In turn, the impact of the fourth wave shall be less and the official races will resume in numbers in 2022.”

Lufuno Mudau, coach of the club, in his remarks encouraged male attendants to respect women and.

He advised them to spread the same message to their immediate brothers and extended family members.
