Zwakala takes home gold at SA beer competition
Zwakala Brewery, home of the well-known and loved locally brewed craft beer, took part in the recent South African National Beer Trophy competition.
LIMPOPO – They competed against famous beer companies including Cape Brewing Company, Devil’s Peak Brewery, Hazeldean Brewing Co. & Frontier Beer Co. and Richmond Hill Brewing Co. During the judging process, 196 beers were tasted.
Zwakala’s Weekend Special was announced Beer of the Year 2021 and for the second time in the history of the South African National Beer Trophy, Zwakala Brewery came home with the first place trophy.
Luca Tooley, head brewer at Zwakala, said they did not expect to win. “We were in shock when we found out. It is a massive achievement for us to be crowned the champions of all beers in South Africa. We had no idea which beer won, we just knew we were going to win something because they invited us to watch the ceremony. We always try brew something new once or twice a year. So, come to Zwakala and have a taste.”
