Malamulele SAPS robbed: Top brass call for arrests

A gang of 10 suspects stormed into the Malamulele Police Station on November 21 and stole weapons and an unknown quantity of ammunition.

LIMPOPO – Police Minister General Bheki Cele says it is unacceptable that those responsible are still at large.

During an armed robbery incident at the Malamulele Police Station on Sunday (November 21), 10 armed suspects stormed the station and made off with high calibre weapons such as R5 rifles, 9mm pistols and shotguns, as well as an undisclosed number of ammunition.

“Following the attack on the police station, the group proceeded to a local food outlet and filling station in the vicinity where they robbed the businesses off an undisclosed amount of cash,” police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo explained in an earlier statement.

A 72-hour activation plan was at the time launched by provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. No arrests have been made as yet.

Cele, his deputy Cassel Mathale and SAPS national commissioner General Khehla Sitole visited the station on Monday (December 13) as part of the SAPS annual Safer Festive Season Inspection Tour.

He called on the police to step up their investigation and find the stolen weapons.

Cele further instructed the national and provincial SAPS commissioners to provide him with daily reports on the progress of the investigation.

“No one can afford to drag their feet on this case. Police must move with speed and make arrests soon,” Cele concluded.
