Some suggest the taxi driver was alone at the time of the incident, while others say he had passengers with him, but this information could not be verified.

Meanwhile, Review contacted Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo as the incident occurred in the Sekhukhune policing area.

“The search for the bodies continues today as there was also a sedan that was swept away,” he added.

Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa said his information indicated that the driver was alone, and added that no case has been opened yet.

“The owner of the taxi has confirmed that the driver is his son,” he added.

Maringa confirmed that two vehicles were swept away by flood waters and urged motorists not to attempt crossing low-lying bridges and flooded roads. “These vehicles were swept away by flood waters when they attempted to cross a bridge covered with water next on Tuesday afternoon. The vehicles were later recovered at the riverbank and at this stage, all the occupants are still missing. The search for the occupants from the two vehicles will start today,” he explained.

The South African Weather Service late on Tuesday afternoon released a level six warning for disruptive rain in the central and eastern parts of Limpopo and the eastern and northern parts of Mpumalanga.

SAWS has issued a yellow level four warning for disruptive rain from 17:00-23:00.

“Disruptive rain that may lead to flooding is expected over the south-eastern parts of Limpopo and eastern highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga,” their report reads.
