The SPCA thanks the residents who helped save the neglected horses

The five horses, including a foal were found abandoned on a property in the city on November 12.

POLOKWANE – The SPCA sent out a plea to the community, after which residents stepped up and donated enough food to feed five horses for a couple of days. These horses were abandoned and the Polokwane SPCA confiscated them once they were informed. According to SPCA manager Selma Landman’s post on Facebook, it wasn’t difficult to get the horses into the horsebox as they were hungry and could smell the food. They did not want to stop drinking water.

“We can’t thank everyone who contributed enough. You made a big difference in the community, the horses were dying of hunger and covered in ticks. The foal was so weak, she almost couldn’t get up. Thank you to the person who notified us of the situation, we have no idea when the last time was these horses had anything to eat or drink.”

There still is not enough food for these horses, and the SPCA would appreciate any donations, especially in the form of financial support to cover medical costs. Any cases of animal abuse or neglect can be reported to the SPCA inspectors on 082 804 0065.
