Lim cops nab post office robbers

The men were arrested following a high-speed car chase with the police.

LIMPOPO – Four men will appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on Monday (November 29) on charges of business robbery, the possession of unlawful firearms and ammunition as well as reckless and negligent driving.

The men, aged between 26 and 48, were arrested following a robbery at the Mokwakwaila post office in the Bolobedu policing area, according to police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“The group stormed the post office on November 25 and attempted to hold the staff hostage. However, one of the employees escaped and the group fled the scene. A team consisting of the Limpopo Highway Patrol, Tactical Response Team, Limpopo Tracking Team and the Tzaneen Tracing Team was activated,” his statement reads.

Mojapelo said the men fled the scene in a blue sedan without number plates. “They were swiftly arrested outside Tzaneen following a high-speed car chase with the police. A firearm, five live rounds of ammunition, a cellphone and the getaway vehicle were confiscated,” he added.

Mojapelo said the origin of the recovered items are still to be determined and that investigations are ongoing.
