Three injured in cash-in-transit vehicle crash on N1

Residents travelling from Polokwane to Gauteng are warned that the N1 south between Murrayhill Road and Wallmansthal Toll Plaza is still closed after the incident.

LIMPOPO – Three security guards were transported to hospital after they sustained injuries during an apparent cash-in-transit heist on the N1 south.

The incident happened on the N1 between the Murrayhill Road and Wallmansthal Toll Plaza, north of Pretoria at around 10:20 on Friday (November 19).

According to a statement issued by Arrive Alive a cash-in-transit vehicle overturned on the N1 near Murrayhill Road. “Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a shooting incident where a cash-in-transit vehicle was reportedly ambushed.”

“Eyewitness on the scene allege that the vehicle was rammed, resulting in a rollover. Three guards sustained minor to moderate injuries and were treated on the scene before they were transported by Netcare 911 ambulance to the hospital for further care.”

The organisation emphasised that the injuries sustained by the guards are not related to gunshot wounds.

Authorities are still on the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. 

The incident has not yet been confirmed as a cash-in-transit heist.
