NA’s fitness facility available for learners, community

The 250m² fitness facility which was recently opened at Northern Academy Secondary School can accommodate 200 members a day, says principal Frederick Romijn.

POLOKWANE – Northern Academy Secondary School opened a fitness facility for learners and general members of the community at the school premises, recently.

The 250m² facility boasts a training bench, dumbbell sets, barbell sets, kettlebell sets, pull-up frames and bars, treadmills, stationary bicycles and rowing machines. It can accommodate 200 athletes a day and learners can pay R200 per month to make use of the facility.

Principal Frederick Romijn said the athletes at the school will no longer have to make use of external facilities.

“The fees are reasonable for our athletes. We are excited because the facility will also enable our soccer, cricket, hockey, netball and rugby players to sharpen their fitness ahead of the resumption of school sport activities. Members of the community are also welcome to make use of the facility at R250 per month.”

Executive head Chris Jansen van Rensburg said the fitness centre will help the athletes with their conditioning. “Conditioning is vital for any athlete and sporting code. It is important for learners to improve their physical well-being and the new facility will help them in that regard.”

Sheldon Turner, the owner of the facility, said through the facility he wants to change people’s lives.

“This has been my childhood dream and I am happy to see it coming into fruition. With this centre I want to change people’s lives and not only their physique. I want to renew people’s minds because exercise is a combination of mind, body and soul. I look forward to assisting the learners and general members of the community.”
