Tumi Mannya has something delicious to offer for every occasion

Her homemade chilli sauces, atchar and pickled vegetables are healthy and can spice up any meal.

POLOKWANE – Entrepreneur Tumi Mannya has something delicious to offer for every occasion.

Tumi makes homemade pickled vegetables, mango atchar and chisa chilli sauces which she sells at markets, retailers, households and local supermarkets.

Tumi established her company, Soldato T, in 2015 and sold her products under the same brand since. Her business originally started as an agricultural project an Soldato T is French for ‘soldier’. Her focus now centers around agro-processing, where she processes agricultural products into her condiments.

The vegetables she pickles include cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, onions and green peas which come in four flavours: mild, hot, garlic and lemon and herb. The chilli sauces can be purchased mild or hot, while the atchar includes mild, hot and garlic flavours. The sauces take Tumi about seven hours to make on a daily basis and she also delves in catering for events.

She tells BONUS that she is no stranger to challenges, which include capital, application for government funding, marketing, networking, ensuring that the business continues to run smoothly and hiring talented people. “Even though we’re experiencing these issues, we never give up. We will try until we get it right,” she says.

“My ultimate favourite product is the pickled vegetables because it is healthy and a ready-made product. You can even eat it with pap or any starch of your choice,” she said.

Tumi advises aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners to never stop learning no matter how big their businesses grow. “Each obstacle you overcome makes you stronger,” she says.
