Power issues lead to water stoppages – muni

Load-shedding and water clarity seemingly contributed to the current water shortage situation.

POLOKWANE – A number of areas in the Polokwane municipal area have had little or no water in recent days.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said in a statement the supply issues are a result of electrical challenges experienced by Lepelle Northern Water on their Ebenezer supply line.

“We are aware of water supply challenges affecting most areas within the city and the Seshego clusters. LNW has informed the municipality that electricity supply has been restored to the plant and pumping has resumed,” he added.

Selala said another reason for low water supply is because the water utility pumped less water from their Olifantspoort line to Polokwane on Friday night. “This is due to high turbidity water value from the Mohlaletsi River, indicating low water clarity. The municipality will in the meantime provide temporary relief in the form of water tankers to all affected areas until the supply lines and reservoirs recover.”

Selala urged those who experience water-related challenges, to report them to the water and sanitation helpline on 015 023 5376 / 5629. Alternatively, the municipal switchboard can be contacted on 015 023 5000.
