Ezekiel aims to unify society

Ezekiel Mohale wants to help society heal from past divisions and establish a new society based on democratic values, social justice and fundamental human rights.

POLOKWANE – Mohale founded the organisation Building Reconciliation Together (BRT) in 2009. “I believe that we can unify society and create much-needed economic and social opportunities for all people,” he said.

The idea to start the foundation began when he was in high school and exposed to the poverty in his community. “I had this hope that maybe one day I will be able to take all people off the streets. I have a burning desire to partner with government and work towards the improvement of society,” he said.

BRT wants to help young, black graduates who struggle to find employment. “We would like to find solutions that will help our people improve their lives and change their circumstances for the better,” he explained.

Their long-term goal is to operate in every province of the country and reach out to the deepest rural villages. It is for this reason that they appeal to the government and corporate community for financial support. “BRT was not created to line the pockets of its members or benefit them in any material way. As it stands, we fund the projects out of the members’ pockets and sometimes get assistance from stakeholders. We also sell T-shirts and use the money to cover the costs of our projects,” he explained.

BRT requests financial support to help keep them afloat and reach more communities. It would help them acquire an office and equipment to help them do their work. In the long-term they plan to acquire land in all the communities they have the most presence in for offices.

“This premises will be used to run a feeding scheme. BRT will also use the office to store school uniforms and other products that will be donated to needy children with unemployed parents. The centres will assist in the distribution of food parcels,” he said. There is still a lot of work that the organisation wants to do in Limpopo, Kwa-Zulu Natal, North West, Mpumalanga, Western Cape and in Gauteng.
