Coach George Mehale to lead SA athletes at Region 5 Athletics Games

World renowned athletics coach George Mehale has help several athletes realise their full potential.

30POLOKWANE – World renowned athletics coach George Mehale will head the South African u/20 athletics team at the Region 5 Athletics Games scheduled for December 5-10 in Lesotho.

He is expected to train the 100m, the hurdles and the relay teams for victory at the event. Mehale coached at the University of Texas in the United States of America years ago and said he looks forward to a great athletics event.

“I am happy to be part of the national team and it is a good feeling to be part of Athletics South Africa. We have already started with the preparations and I can tell you that the team looks good. The boys and girls promised to do well and come home with medals.”

Mehale coached South African athlete Sydney Maree for the 1984 Olympics where he represented the US.

He also prepared American triple jump star Robert Cannon for the 1988 Olympics.

Mehale earned his Master’s Degree in sports management and administration from California State University in 1990, after which he received his bachelor’s degree in physical education and health at the University of Texas in 1992.
