POLOKWANE – Tebatso Malome Khomo, an independent candidate of ward 22 in the upcoming local government elections, was brutally attacked on Wednesday (October 27).

The incident happened at his residence in Voortrekker Street. He was hospitalised after he sustained eight stab wounds after he attempted to fight the intruder off, his wife Jules told Review.

She called her husband at around 10:00 and he informed her that there was an intruder in the house.

“It seems my husband tried to fight him off and that’s how he got badly hurt. He managed to call me back less than an hour later to say the intruder had taken all our electronics, but had dropped one phone in the process.”

Jules said at this stage it is unclear whether the attack was politically motivated or just a robbery.

“Luckily, the children and I were not at home. The intruder said he will be back for me,” she said and added that she fears for their lives.

According to Jules, a case hasn’t been opened with the police yet due to Tebatso’s hospitalisation. A case will be opened later today, she added.

Community Policing Forum (CPF) media liaison officer, Francios Swart confirmed the incident but could not disclose any details at this stage.
