Moti kidnapping: ‘We must rally together and bring the perpetrators to book’

JUSA called on state authorities to make the Moti kidnapping a priority and to the public to assist law enforcement in every way possible to reunite the Moti brothers with their family.

POLOKWANE – The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa (JUSA) has called on communities across the country to rally together and to assist law enforcement in every way possible to bring the Moti brothers home.

In a statement on Sunday, Jusa expressed their concern about the welfare of Zidan (6), Zayyad (11), Alaan (13) and Zia (15) Moti, who were abducted last Wednesday in Polokwane.

“It is a cowardly act to endanger the lives of young children and our thoughts and fervent prayers are with the boys, their family and friends in these testing times filled with anguish, uncertainty and trepidation.”

The council said kidnappings is a phenomenon that has regrettably taken root in the country, in recent years. They called on state authorities to make the Moti investigation a matter of priority.

“We commend individuals and communities that have shown solidarity through their calls for the safe return of the boys, their support for the Muslim community of Polokwane in general, and the boys’ family, in particular.

“We call upon the public to continue assisting law enforcement authorities so that the boys can be found and reunited with their family.”

They added that in these moments the country must rally together to unequivocally condemn such criminal acts. “The perpetrators have to be apprehended and brought to book, in order to ensure the safety and security of our neighbourhoods, especially for our innocent young ones, wherever they may be,” the statement concluded.
