Vooma vaccination weekend: Get your jab on these dates

The next dates for the Vooma vaccination weekend programme have been set.

President Cyril Ramaphosa officially launched the Vooma vaccination weekend programme on October 1 with the aim to mobilise people living in South Africa to get vaccinated in an effort to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The Vooma campaign is aimed at helping South Africa ensure that 70% of the population is vaccinated by the end of December.”

The public and private health sectors, organised labour and business, and community- and faith-based formations and traditional leaders have joined forces to mobilise communities to take up the additional opportunities. According to the presidency’s website, Ramaphosa commended the more than 353 000 people who adhered to the call to get vaccinated during the first Vooma vaccination weekend hosted on October 1-2. The number of vaccine doses administered during the weekend was one and a half times more than the normal daily rate.

Thilivhali Muavha, spokesperson to Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba, says with Vooma being a national campaign Limpopo will continue with its provincial vaccination programmes that are targeting various sectors in the province.

Muavha says the next dates for the Vooma campaign are November 1, November 12-14 and December 3-5.

He says the locations of the Vooma campaign in the province will be announced closer to the dates but for now residents can continue visiting the predetermined vaccination sites at public and private institutions.
