UPDATE: Search on for kidnapped children, driver

The four children, believed to be that of a local businessman, and their driver were earlier hijacked on the R71.

POLOKWANE –  Local authorities are currently searching for a large silver-grey SUV in which four children and their driver, who had earlier been hijacked, are being transported.

The hijacking happened along the R71 earlier today, as the driver was on his way to take the children to a private school. According to Community Policing Forum (CPF) media liaison officer, Francios Swart it is believed that two men were responsible for the incident.

The vehicle in which the children were being transported has in the meantime been found abandoned and reports suggest that the perpetrators fled the scene in an SUV with the victims, currently believed to be travelling in the direction of N1 north.

According to sources, the children between the ages of three and ten, are that of a local businessman.

The police are yet to confirm the incident. Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo told Review that no case has been opened as yet.
