These future road projects prioritised for Polokwane Muni

Sanral held an engagement session to discuss the five future design and construction projects prioritised for Polokwane Municipality.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality’s mayoral committee member for roads, transportation and storm water, councillor Welheminah Phoshoko, has praised Sanral for its contribution to road infrastructure in the province.

Phoshoko spoke during a stakeholder engagement session recently hosted in Polokwane. The session formed part of the agency’s flagship events called ‘Taking Sanral to the people’ which aims to share key information regarding upcoming projects and opportunities therein.

“The agency’s roads infrastructure has elevated both Polokwane as a city and Limpopo as a province. The construction of highways plays a significant role in the rapid urbanisation of the city and ensures sustainable economic development to the province as a whole,” Phoshoko said.

She went on to recognise the significance of the Polokwane East Ring Road, which Sanral recently completed.

“It is important for the municipality to collaborate with Sanral and the Road Agency of Limpopo in order to deliver state-of-the-art road infrastructure,” she said.

One of the highlights of the event was Sanral board member Piet Mathosa, who shared the agency’s commitment to transformation when it comes to the road construction industry.

“As a government agency that accounts back to the transport ministry, Sanral has a responsibility to ensure that we address the imbalances of the past. In doing so, we want to encourage our local businesses to ensure that they are all compliant,” Mathosa said.

A key routine road maintenance project to happen within the Polokwane Local Municipality will be project X.002-087-2019. The duration of this particular routine road maintenance will be 36 months with a projected end date of June 30, 2024. A minimum of 40% will be subcontracted to targeted enterprises.
