CDM Mayor: ‘We will not tolerate laziness, incompetence and non-performance’

The first female mayor of the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), Mamedupi Teffo, wants to take the municipality to new heights.

POLOKWANE – After her appointment as the first female mayor of the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), Mamedupi Teffo thanked the leadership of the ANC for the confidence expressed in allowing her to fill the position. Her appointment came after the former mayor, John Mpe resigned to take up his new role as the mayor of Polokwane Municipality.

Teffo’s appointment took effect on September 30 after a special council meeting held at the Jack Botes Hall. She was recommended for the position by the region and the appointment was approved by the provincial and national leadership of the ANC.

She says they have already begun the process of visiting the length and breadth of the region on an election campaign trail to talk to the people in villages, townships and suburbs and receive feedback on the progress needed to make a change in their lives for the better.

“Each experience enriches our shared perspective on the milestones made since the advent of local government and appreciate challenges that we must surmount in order to improve their lives.” Teffo said she is counting on partnerships with communities, businesses, traditional leaders and all other stakeholders to enable the municipality to find lasting solutions to all governance and developmental challenges. She has also extended a hand of friendship to all opposition parties, for the common course of serving the people, saying that through robust debates and diverse opinions, they will build a better and prosperous district.

“We must also strive to improve our cash flow and ensure that we are financially viable by achieving an improved acceptable liquidity ratio and reduce our heavy dependence on grants. It is for this reason that our revenue streams, particularly water transactions must be backed up by reliable smart billing in order to encourage people to pay for services. I am confident that we are equal to the task and that we will not disappoint.”

In closing, Teffo stated that laziness, incompetence and non-performance will not be tolerated as employees have to demonstrate discipline, commitment and passion in serving communities effectively and efficiently without compromise.

She has appointed her mayoral committee:

• Infrastructure Services: Maria Mokobodi.

• Finance: Blanco Boloka.

• Corporate Services: Chuene Malebana.

• Local Economic Development: Mabotse Mothiba.

• Spatial Planning and IDP: Sammy Selamolela.

• Community Services: Betty Kgare.

• Sports Art and Culture: Elizabeth Kgatla.

• Strategic Executive Management Services: Jara Masubelele.
