Polokwane church robbed of goods worth R30K overnight

The Christ Cathedral Church has been plagued by a spate of robberies over the past five weeks.

POLOKWANE – A break-in at the Christ Cathedral Church on Biccard Street last night has left the church and its members in disbelief.

A bronze cross along with all the outside door handles were taken overnight. The estimated loss amounts to R30 000, Reverend Rendani Mudau told Polokwane Review.

Mudau said that this is not the first incident. “We have had three robbery incidents in the past five weeks and the church has opened a case at the Polokwane Police Station after each one.”

He explained the last person left at around 17:45 on Wednesday (October 6). “I arrived at the premises at 07:30 this morning to find that the cross from our memorial garden along with several door handles were missing.”

He urged the public to be on the lookout for anyone who attempts to sell the cross or the door handles. He also advised the community to refrain from theft.

Anyone with information about this incident can contact the police on 10111. Alternatively they can contact the church on 015 297 2667.

This is not the first robbery at a church within the city over the past week. Read the full story in next week’s Polokwane Review.
