Limpopo man wins big in Lotto Plus

A 59-year-old man won big with a Lotto ticket he purchased for R40 at a local SPAR.

LIMPOPO – One of the Lotto Plus 2 jackpot winners of September 22, is a 59-year-old man from Hoedspruit, Limpopo.

The man purchased a ticket for R40 at his local SPAR and according to a statement by the national lottery operator, ITHUBA, the winner made use of the manual selection method.

“ITHUBA is pleased to announce that one of the LOTTO PLUS 2 jackpot winners of over R7m has finally come forward to claim his winnings. The lucky winner received a cool R3m and selected his winning numbers of 05, 17, 18, 21, 33, 47, and the Bonus Ball as 30,” the statement reads.

The 59-year-old man spoke to Ithuba and said: “After visiting my nearest local store to validate my ticket, I was referred to the ITHUBA offices in Limpopo to process and claim my winnings as I had won an amount of over R50 000. Not once did it cross my mind that I was one of the LOTTO PLUS 2 jackpot winners. After a couple of days, I decided to visit the ITHUBA offices where I got the biggest shock of my life.”

The newly established millionaire had a simple wish. “My wish has always been to buy myself a small bakkie for my own personal use. I also plan on building a new house for my family, nothing too extravagant but a simple house that will be perfect for us.”

He also wants to pay for his grandson’s tertiary education and assist his close family financially.

Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza congratulated the winner. “We are extremely happy that we have produced yet another multi-millionaire this year. We are excited to see many of our players opt to play the national lottery at the various authorised national lottery retailers. Our players come from all walks of life and are spread out across all provinces. This is precisely what Ithuba set out to do when we were granted our licence to operate the national lottery in 2015. We want to increase the national lottery footprint and make it accessible so that all South Africans have an equal opportunity to win life-changing jackpots,” added Mabuza.

Mabuza said winners of R50 000 and more receive extensive financial advice, as well as trauma counselling from qualified psychologists. “By doing this, we help them deal with their new financial circumstances. These advisory services come at no cost to the winner.”
