Limpopo woman in court for killing her teen son

The son had threatened both the woman and her daughter before he was killed, according to the police.

LIMPOPO – Provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned an incident in which a 60-year-old woman murdered her 18-year-old son.

According to a statement by police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday (September 26).

“The victim reportedly arrived home at Ga-Masemola Kgoogo section after attending a wedding. He then allegedly started insulting his 25-year-old sister and threatened her with a knife,” Mojapelo explained.

He said the mother tried to intervene but was also reportedly threatened.

“The woman then used a piece of wood and a stick to strike the victim and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The woman thereafter came to the police station to report the incident and was immediately arrested,” he added.

Mojapelo said when the police visited the scene, they found the deceased with gruesome injuries.

The woman is expected to appear in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court today (September 28) on a charge of murder.

Meanwhile a 36-year-old father from Matavhela near Mafukani who was charged with the murder of his three-year-old child is set to reappeared in the Mutale Magistrate’s Court today.

Mulalo Mathegu is said to have killed the child with a hammer on September 2.  Mathegu and the girl’s mother had earlier ended their relationship.

Hadebe urged residents who might have domestic challenges, to seek assistance before the situation spirals out of control and someone loses their life in the process.
