R500K drugs uncovered in upmarket Polokwane suburbs

The successful operation was conducted by the police, aided by the Community Policing Forum (CPF).

POLOKWANE  – A recent drug bust in the city shows that at R100 per gram, drug users are buying top quality heroine in some of the city’s upmarket neighbourhoods.

Some close to the investigation told Review that because heroine is an expensive drug, it does not easily find its way to the CBD or outlying areas as only the more affluent users can afford it – and have to come and pick it up themselves.

The Community Policing Forum (CPF) recently offered information to the police that led to the successful arrest of three suspects for possession of and dealing in drugs with an estimated street value of R500 000.

Three men between the ages of 27 and 42 were arrested in three separate drug busts on Wednesday (September 15), after the police received tip-offs.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said they followed up on information that surfaced in the first bust, which led to a house occupied by a foreign national in Bendor.

The house was searched and 50 sachets of nyaope to the value of R2 000 and 15gr of crystal meth to the street value of R15 000 were found in the man’s possession and he was arrested on the spot.

“In the second incident, a 42-year-old man was arrested in Thornhill for possession of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R100 000, pure heroine valued at R200 000 and mandrax tablets with a street value of R26 000.

Here, the team followed up on information which directed them back to Bendor where a 29-year-old man was arrested for possession of 100gr of crystal meth to the street value of R100 000. A silver grey Mercedes-Benz was also seized.”

Francois Swart, CPF media liaison officer says that they have been keeping tabs on the drug dealers in the city and plans are in action to assist the police in eradicating drugs for good. Read more about these plans in this week’s Polokwane Review
