Limpopo man stabs murder accused to avenge his brother’s death

The man handed himself over to the authorities after the act, say the police.

LIMPOPO – A year after his brother’s death, Innocent Makondelele took the law into his own hands and is said to have killed the man who allegedly murdered his brother in September last year.

The 28-year-old Rofhiwa Managa’s body was found in a street in Tshakhuma on Sunday, September 12.

He had gaping wounds to his head, suggesting that he had been stabbed with a sharp object. According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, an argument allegedly ensued between Managa and the 25-year-old suspect, after which Managa was stabbed several times in the head.

Makondelele handed himself over to the police and told them that he took revenge on Managa for killing his older brother, Tshililo Makondelele, in September last year at a local tavern. Managa was arrested for murder and was out on bail at the time of his death.

Mojapelo warned the community against taking the law into their own hands. Makondelele appeared before the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on September 14 and the case was postponed to October 29. He remains in custody.

Managa’s father, Ronald Managa said he had heard that a man was found dead in the street. He rushed to the scene and was shocked to find that it was his son. “Our hearts are broken. The man responsible for my son’s death will pay for it one of these days. God will answer me,” he said.

Rofhiwa was buried at Tshakhuma on Friday, September 17.
