Aarto rolled out in phases

The province is geared for the rollout of the amended Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) regulations.

POLOKWANE – Phase one of the rollout plan, which started on July 1, saw the Polokwane Municipality start virtual services and eight more sites are ready for the roll-out just in time for phase two.

According to the acting administrative head, Jane Mulaudzi, 309 operational officers have been trained to implement Aarto in the other eight municipalities that have been identified. Eight issuing authorities are going to be proclaimed on October 1 as part of phase two of the roll-out plan while emphasising its importance in ensuring road safety.

“The primary goal of Aarto is to improve road safety. Motorists must account for their behaviour through the demerit point system that comes with Aarto.”

Mulaudzi has emphasised that the point demerit system is not meant to punish but to promote good behaviour by drivers.
