LIMPOPO – With the ‘best interest of Gr 12 learners in mind’, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has amended the matric examination time-table.

The final National Senior Certificate examination which was initially scheduled to commence on November 1 will now start on October 27.

In a statement on Wednesday, the DBE said consultations with key stakeholders that included teacher unions, school governing body associations and professional bodies started last week.

“There are 207 question papers to be written over 25 days (five weeks) and there were vacant sessions in the previous 25-day timetable, hence the re-scheduling needed to be confined to either prior the commencement date; or post the conclusion date.”

They added the final decision was taken during a special meeting held by the Council of Education Ministers earlier this morning.

“The changes were necessitated to allow learners, educators  and invigilators, who are eligible to vote, to cast their ballots on November 1.”

The papers; English (home language, first additional language and second additional language) paper 1, business studies paper 1 , and the non-official languages paper 1, will now be written on October 27 and 28 respectively.
