[LISTEN] Polokwane: ‘Switch off to avoid major blackout’

The warning was issued after the Pietersburg Witkop 1 substation tripped due to veldfires.

POLOKWANE – Eskom Limpopo customers relations manager Dikgabane Rampedi has urged residents to use electricity sparingly.

The warning was issued after the Pietersburg Witkop 1 substation tripped due to veldfires.

“There’s also a risk of trip on the Pietersburg Witkop 2 substation as it cannot carry the whole load and we therefore request customers to use electricity sparingly by unplugging and switching of appliances they don’t need,” Rampedi emphasised.

He explained that the Soengloed line, which feeds Wawiel, Palm, Zandput, Seshego 66kv, Chloe Moletjie, Pietersburg Braksloot and Pietersburg Keena Moloto will be affected.

“The Polokwane Municipality substations of Alpha, Delta, Gamma, Lota, Sigma and Epssolom will also be affected,” Rampedi added.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said Eskom and the Polokwane Municipality’s leadership both ask that residents switch off to avoid an unnecessary trip.

“We hope that the veldfires would be controlled,” concluded Rampedi.
