Conference brings tangible solutions

Investors and local industries shared a platform at the Limpopo Investment Conference, with the hope to drive economic development.

POLOKWANE – The conference took place on September 1 and 2, and Economic Development MEC Thabo Mokone believes that it comes at the right time as the department is tired of talks and needs to see tangible activity.

The launch of the conference was held at Fusion Boutique Hotel on August 27 where the department took the time to outline the need for the conference.

The department explained how it hopes to accelerate economic activity that will see key discussions in the areas of mining and mineral beneficiation, agriculture and agro-processing, renewable and alternative energy, tourism, industrial infrastructure and technology and special economic zones (SEZ).

Mokone said the investment conference is a culmination of the investment promotion drive that was undertaken by the government over the past few years.

“We have responded to the Limpopo Development Plan which calls for the beneficiation of our industrial base to stimulate economic growth across traditional and new emerging sectors. We bring together investors and delegates from local, national and international business communities on the same platform to pave a way that will nurture and support industrialisation in Limpopo.”

Mokone is confident that the conference will be able to accelerate industrialisation and stimulate economic activities in all districts.

Limpopo Economic Development Agency CEO Thakhani Makhuvha said the conference is inline with the agency’s mandate from government to drive economic development and alleviate unemployment, inequality and poverty.

“At the end of this conference we need tangible pledges from the ‘captains of the industry’ who have confirmed with us that they will be here with their billions. Thus far 230 guests including those from out of the country have confirmed that they will be a part of the conference to identify operations to invest in within the province.”

Mokone reiterated that this is part of the department’s plans to bring practical solutions that will drive economic activity inline with their growth trajectory.
