LIMPOPO – Provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has applauded the various police teams who continue to ensure that everyone who commits a crime, gets arrested.
Hadebe lead the praise after 1 398 suspects between the age of 21 and 62 were arrested for various offences such as stock theft, rape, murder and possession of suspected stolen properties.
Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo in a statement said among these suspects, 120 were found to be in contravention of the regulations under the Disaster Management Act.
The operations were conducted across the province from August 23 to August 31.
Mojapelo highlighted some of the arrests:
Stock theft in Ga-Masemola
Four men were arrested in Ga-Masemola on August 30, for possession of seven suspected stolen goats.
Conspiracy to commit poaching outside Lephalale
The Provincial Endangered Species Unit in Bulgerivier outside Lephalale arrested two men, aged 27 and 31, for conspiracy to commit poaching. The men were arrested on August 29 and a hunting rifle, silencer, ammunition, rifle bag, knife and a rifle scope were found hidden inside their vehicle.
Business robbery in Mookgophong
Police received a tip-off on August 25, about a business robbery at two shops in Mookgophong. The tip-off led to the arrest of four men aged between 21 and 36. Police recovered two firearms, a laptop, cellphone and a Volkswagen Polo.
Murder in Modimolle
A 27-year-old man was arrested in Modimolle for murder, after the body of an unknown man was found at Ext 8 on August 28. “The suspect was found in possession of some items believed to have belonged to the deceased.”
Hijacking in Seshego
Police in Seshego were informed about an Isuzu bakkie that was hijacked in the area on August 28. Members of the Flying Squad, Limpopo Highway Patrol and Seshego SAPS arrested four men aged between 21 and 25, for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, at Madiba Park.
Business robbery in Giyani
A 30-year-old man was arrested for carjacking, business robbery and possession of two unlicensed firearms in Giyani. He was arrested on August 25.
Attempted robbery in Mookgophong
On August 26, members received information about an attempted robbery at Mookgophong. “They spotted four suspects driving in a white Volkswagen Polo along the N1 south. The officers gave chase until Kranskop toll gate where all four suspects were cornered and arrested. Two pistols and the getaway vehicle were confiscated,” Mojapelo said.
He added some of the arrested suspects have already started to appear before various magistrate’s courts in the province.
