“Cllr Haas was the ward councillor in ward 21, Polokwane. He was the longest serving DA councillor in the Polokwane caucus and served the town and its residents with unwavering dedication,” her statement reads.

Van der Walt notes that Haas ‘served the Polokwane Municipality as a councillor with great distinction since 2006’.

“He further served as the DA Polokwane caucus leader since 2011, where he continuously fought for service delivery and the improvement of the lives of residents. Cllr Haas was known as a successful businessman, a committed, hardworking and principled public representative and a generous, kind and caring husband and father,” she explains.

Van der Walt says his departure will leave a massive void in the DA and the community at large and adds that it was a privilege and honour to work alongside him.

“We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues during this time of immense sorrow. We will keep them and all who are in mourning in our thoughts and prayers,” she concludes.
