[LISTEN] Transport Dept warns of job scam involving trainee positions

"Vacancies are strictly advertised on official platforms and no upfront payments to secure a position will be demanded,” says the department.

LIMPOPO – The Department of Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo urged job seekers to be vigilant against a job scam involving trainee positions at the department’s traffic college.

Departmental media liaison officer, Mike Maringa said fake appointment letters are being sent to unsuspecting job seekers, with the sender claiming to be from the department.

“This unscrupulous person has defrauded scores of people by promising them traffic officers trainee positions at our traffic college in lieu of monetary payment.”

The said letter bears the national office letterhead and the provincial stamp and reads that the successful job applicant will be required to work for the Limpopo Department of Transport after completing a six-month trainee course at the college.

He added that the department has received reports that scores of people in Vhembe have already fallen victims and deposited amounts of money to a Capitec Account to secure the promised job opportunities.

“Currently there are no advertised traffic officers trainee positions available. When positions become available the department will use official platforms to advertise and will not demand upfront payments. “

He further urged the youth to be vigilant and not fall victims to the scam.
