Police discover partially burnt body of woman outside Westenburg

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the woman might have been murdered elsewhere and her body dumped in the area.

POLOKWANE –  The police appeals to the public to help them find those who are responsible for the murder of a woman whose body was discovered near Westenburg on Wednesday (August 18).

Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says the body of the woman was found near extension 106 at around 18:30. “The half-naked body of the deceased was partially burnt and her hands were tied,” he adds.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman seems to be in her twenties.

“Further investigation revealed that she may have been murdered elsewhere and that her body was dumped in the bushes.”

The motive behind the murder is still under investigation and the police appeal to anyone with information that can help them catch the culprit(s) involved, to contact investigation officer Sgt Mmutlana Ledwaba on 078 470 9390 or the 24-hour Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

Social Development MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale remains concerned about the number of gender-based violence and femicide cases still reported, especially in the midst of Women’s Month where women are supposed to be celebrated.

Rakgoale in an earlier statement said that real men do not kill or rape their women, but rather give them comfort and security. She advised woman who are in abusive relationships or who experience relationship problems to instead seek professional help from social workers in the area or from the police.
