Residents’ safety a priority
Our Home/Ons Tuiste staff members on duty in the frail care unit and kitchen recently received a consignment of used personal protective equipment (PPE).
POLOKWANE – The donation was sourced by an anonymous donor and consisted of gowns which were slightly worn.
Residents Lena van der Ryst, Lettie Vogel and Rina du Plessis took the opportunity to unpack their sewing equipment and completed the alterations and repairs within days.
Frail care matron Carina Kearns says that the donation is highly appreciated.
“The well-being of our residents and in particular those in frail care, are of paramount importance and the personal protective equipment is necessary to promote the health of the patients as well as the staff.
“We are unable to provide accommodation for our staff on the premises and they have to commute from home to work on a daily basis, hence the PPE will ensure that a high standard of sanitation is maintained,” she said.
Enrolled nursing assistants Vendah Lekganyane and Emily Raphadu could not wait to don their uniforms. “The gowns project a professional image and show that we are serious about the health of our patients,” Lekganyane said.
