Taxi owner and female companion gunned down at filling station outside Bolobedu

Police say the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage, but taxi violence cannot be ruled out.

LIMPOPO – Provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has condemned the murder of a man and woman at a filling station on Tuesday night. 

Fourie Mobai (47), a taxi owner from Ga-Matswi village and Deborah Moila (42) from Bellevue village were shot and killed by unknown assailants at a filling station in Mohlabaneng Cross near Bellevue.

Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the deceased allegedly arrived at the filling station driving a white Volkswagen Polo.

“The man entered the shop to buy something while his female companion remained in the vehicle. Two suspects emerged and one entered the shop and fired shots at the taxi owner while the other shot at the woman. They then disappeared,” he explained.

Mojapelo says both victims were certified dead on the scene and that police have opened two counts of murder and launched a manhunt for the suspects. 

“The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage but taxi violence cannot be ruled out,” he added.

“Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact Det Serg Phaladi Makola on 082 749 2233, the crime stop number on 08600 10111or their nearest police station. Police investigations continue,” he concluded.
