Vandalism leaves suburb in city without electricity

The electrical team is working to restore electricity to the affected area, says Thipa Selala, the spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality.

POLOKWANE –  The municipal energy services team is working on restoring electricity supply to parts of Sterpark after a vadalism incident in the area.

The spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality, Thipa Selala says a mini substation in the area was vadalised leaving several households in Sterpark without power.

“The team is on the scene to repair the damaged infrastructure and have estimated a four to five hour restoration time.”

In the meantime the residents living in the affected areas are advised to treat all electrical wiring as live and are advised to switch off all appliances to avoid damage once supply is restored.

Selala encouraged the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Municipal By-Law Enforcement Services on 015 024 5484 or to police on 086 00 10111.

Electricity supply issues can also be reported to the Electrical Call Centre on 015 023 5490 / 5705 or the Electrical WhatsApp line on 083 824 9886.
