Polokwane Mayor redeployed following cabinet reshuffle

Thembi Nkadimeng will take over the role of Deputy Minister of CoGTA.

POLOKWANE – President Cyril Ramaphosa announced several changes to his cabinet last night.

One of the announcements was the appointment of Polokwane Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng as the Deputy Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

Nkadimeng replaces Obed Bapela.

On Thursday evening Ramaphosa said the cabinet reshuffle ‘comes at a time when the country is facing several challenges and we are called upon to undertake several tasks at once’.

He said government is working to ensure peace and stability in South Africa by mobilising resources to rebuild the economy and accelerate the vaccination campaign. “Therefore, we need to make changes to improve government’s capacity to undertake these tasks.”

Nkadimeng in the mayoral hot seat

Nkadimeng was appointed as Polokwane mayor in July 2014 after the ANC’s provincial executive committee received and approved the resignation of former Polokwane Mayor Freddy Greaver.

One of her priorities she said during an interview after a 100 days in office was to prioritise the replacement of old infrastructure such as water- and sewage pipes.
