Gogo Francina turns 101

Age might just be a number but when you turn 101 years old, celebrations are in order.

POLOKWANE – On July 23, Gogo Francina Menyatsoe celebrated her centenary milestone with tea and cake among friends and a few family members.

Gogo Francina was born in Zeerust where she went to school up to Gr 6.

She then had to start working and for the rest of her life, her attention was divided between her work, husband and children. She had 10 children of which four already passed away. She also has a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren.

Her fifth-born child, Itumeleng Matlou Mashiane says her mother was very strict and hard working.

“She was always clean and taught us how to take care of our homes. She taught us how to effectively communicate with those around us and how to treat others. A valuable thing we learned from her was to pray and go to church regularly.”

Even though Gogo Francina’s eyesight and hearing is still good, she is currently staying at the Martha Hofmeyr Old Age Home. Here she can move around freely in her wheelchair, while spending time with her new friends.

“She used to stay with us until recently when we had to move her to the home. We call her often and as soon as we can, we will visit again.”

Bakery Co. supplied a cake while Floral Avenue supplied a bouquet of flowers for the birthday girl.
