Limpopo: Four killed in early-morning crash near Northam

Four people including the driver of a sedan were killed on impact, says the department.

LIMPOPO – Four people were killed and two person seriously injured on Saturday following an early-morning collision along the R510 road near Northam in the Waterberg district.

Mike Maringa, the media liaison officer for the Department of Transport four people were killed on impact after a sedan collided with an on-coming bakkie. 

“Four people including the driver of the sedan were killed on impact and two others sustained serious injuries,” he said.

The injured parties were taken to the Amandabult hospital for medical treatment.

Reckless driving and unsafe overtaking has been cited as the possible cause of the accident, he concluded.

This fatal incident comes a day after four people were killed and ten others seriously injured in a horror collision along the N1 north.

The incident involved a taxi and bus and according to reports at the time the police were in pursuit of the taxi when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The taxi driver and three others were certified dead on the scene while ten others were injured. ‘Two people were critically injured, six were treated for minor injuries, while two others escaped with serious injuries,” said Maringa.

Transport and Community Safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya sent messages of condolences to the families that lost their loved ones in these horrific accidents.
