The Sandwich Guy serves up good food, friendly smile
The Sandwich Guy, whose real name is Rethabile Nkwana (31) sells freshly made sandwiches to fund his law studies.
POLOKWANE – You’ve probably seen his friendly face on the corner of Potgieter Avenue and General Viljoen Street with his cooler box and freshly made sandwiches.
The Sandwich Guy, whose real name is Rethabile Nkwana (31) told Polokwane Review that he sells sandwiches to make extra profit to fund his law studies.
“My student financial aid does not cover everything and you have to hustle for what you want,” he said.
Rethabile, who resides in Bendor prepares the sandwiches every morning with various fillings to sell during peak traffic hours every Monday to Friday.
He says his love for food motivated him to start the business and that he loves cooking. “Food is essential, especially breakfast.”
“This passion motivates me to serve the community with a big smile on my face every morning,” he said.
Rethabile says he started selling sandwiches on Youth Day this year and that he takes orders and requests for new fillings.
He says that business is growing on a daily basis and on average, he sells 20 sandwiches a day.
“Although there are some days on which I would return home with stock, I usually make sure that the sandwiches are sold out before going home,” he said.
Rethabile says he does not deliver, but should the need arise, it is something he will look into.
He is also looking at adding platters to his menu and prepare orders for events on an order basis, in the hope that his business will grow and create employment.
“I would like to kindly urge people to support my business and help it grow so that I can also create employment for other people,” he concluded.
