Taxi associations treated to lunch

A combined effort between United Meat and Chicken along with De Hoek Takeaways treated various associations in the city, that were responsible for keeping the city safe during threats of unrest over the past few weeks, to lunch.

POLOKWANE – The owner of the two shops, Belinda Vieira says the gesture sought to bring the communities together and thank those who were responsible for ensuring that no looting or any form of violence takes place in Polokwane.

“We have made provision for around 100 people according to the numbers we were given by the associations. If we can encourage unity then we will make the community stronger and be able to fight off any threat that might want to come in between.”

Hamid Salman, the chairperson of the Central Business District Business Association (CBDBA), says they appreciate the efforts by business owners to thank them for the work they have been doing.

He says even though the looting threats have passed, they will continue to serve and protect the city against any form of crime, with particular focus on the CBD and any vulnerable people such as pensioners. “The past few weeks have taught us that if we work together we are capable of keeping Polokwane safe. If is important to integrate the different parts of the city. We have seen that we can work together and it is possible, it is now up to us to carry on with the work we have been doing.”

Kgabo Mangabo, the chairperson of the Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association says they appreciate the gesture.

“It is good that they have invited us here today and we truly appreciate the time they took to prepare lunch for us. We have made arrangements to deliver to those who could not come collect in person.”
