Food parcels for victims

The Polokwane Victim Empowerment Centre has decided to donate food to 20 families within the Polokwane policing area inline with their Mandela Month initiatives.

POLOKWANE – Project manager Regina Mailula says the 20 families were identified from their own victim database and were selected based on their needs. “We prioritised those coming from child-headed households and those who were severely hit by the pandemic and are unemployed as a result. Families living with HIV are also at the top of our list and were selected as well.”

The food parcels include a variety of items ranging from toiletries, cooking essentials as well as masks and sanitisers to help fight Covid-19.

Mavis Radzilani, a social worker at the centre says they started the initiative last year after they realised they could not hold the usual Mandela Day events because of the lockdown regulations. “Because we pre-selected the families they will receive their food parcels when they come for consultations at the centre.

As a victim empowerment centre we always try to find ways to assist the victims beyond our scope of work. We are able to identify any other needs from the victims and do our best to assist them.”
