Three people dead after driver fails to stop vehicle at stop street

One driver sustained critical injuries while the other escaped with minor injuries.

LIMPOPO – A section of the N11 road was closed for several hours on Wednesday (July 28) after two vehicles collided at a stop street near Slaagboom Farm in the Sekhukhune district.

Media liaison officer for the Department of Transport, Mike Maringa, said the the incident involved two VW Polo sedans and happened at 12:50 today.

Three people were killed and four others were injured. According to reports the vehicles collided after one of the drivers failed to stop at a stop sign, Maringa added.

“Three passengers were certified dead on the scene, one driver is in a critical condition while the other driver and two passengers escaped with minor injuries.”

He said reckless driving has been cited as the possible cause of the accident.

Transport and Community Safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya sent messages of condolences to the families of the three victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The MEC has reiterated her call for motorists to exercise patience and to drive with caution, Maringa concluded.
