Game breeder arrested for possession, trade in rhino horns

The local businessman along with an accomplice are set to appear in the court in Nelspruit this afternoon.

POLOKWANE – A local game breeder has earlier today been charged with the illegal possession and the selling of rhino horns after a combined intelligence operation involving several law enforcement units.

The 52-year-old man, who cannot be named until his court appearance, was arrested and charged in Nelspruit, along with a suspected accomplice, aged 47.

The intelligence operation saw representatives from the DPCI, the EPR Wildlife Trafficking head office, counter intelligence and the private sector engaged in the investigation.

The men were according to information found in possession of 19 rhino horns with an estimated value of R2,6 million.

Two Toyota Hilux bakkies were also seized.
