Bail granted to man (64) arrested for fraud

The man was arrested after applying for a loan with a fraudulent payslip in 2018.

LIMPOPO – The Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations’ Limpopo spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, confirmed that a 64-year-old man had been arrested for fraud, earlier today, and appeared before the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court.

The accused was granted R2 000 bail.

“The accused was allegedly in cahoots with bank officials in Tzaneen and presented an application for a loan in November 2018 using a fraudulent payslip. The application was successfully processed and approved resulting in a payout of R122 050,” he explained in a statement.

Forensic investigators at the bank then referred the matter to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit for further probe.

The man was arrested at his home at Pelane section, Ga-Matipana in Bolobedu.

The matter was postponed to August 17 while investigations continue. “More arrests are imminent,” Maluleke concluded.
