Stats SA urges citizens to register for the Pilot Census
The census can be done telephonically or online and Stats SA says no respondent, whether on prepaid or contract, will pay any data costs to access and complete the Pilot Census questionnaire.
POLOKWANE – Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) recently suspended all face-to-face data collection in the light of an increase in Covid-19 cases, and the move to adjusted alert level 4.
As a result, they now only make use of remote data collection methods such as online questionnaires, which households complete themselves, or via telephone where a Stats SA call centre agent contacts you to help you complete the questionnaire.
“Statistics South Africa is conducting a Pilot Census from July 4 to August 4 to prepare for the upcoming census. The Pilot Census will assist with planning for the main census. Households are required to register on getcounted.statssa.gov.za by July 30. If you have any challenges registering, you may contact the call centre on 0800 110 248 for assistance,” they explain.
They add that respondents who select the telephonic interview option will receive details of the interviewers assigned to their respective areas, prior to the date of interview.
“The interviewer’s identity is also available on the Field Staff Page on Stats SA’s website. Data collected by Stats SA is only used for statistical purposes and may not be shared with the state or any organs of the state and it remains confidential,” they concluded.
