Thorisho Themane’s murder trial postponed 2nd time due to Covid-19

The National Prosecuting Authority's regional spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, has confirmed that the trial in the murder case of Thorisho Themane has been postponed.

POLOKWANE – Themane was brutally murdered in February 2019, and his murder sparked outrage in the community after a video leaked, showing how his lifeless body was carried by the alleged minor suspects, who are now on trial for the murder,

There were initially 11 people charged. Two of the accused are adults, while the other nine were minors at the time.

One of the minors passed away before the matter was moved to the Limpopo High Court and three of the remaining minors have since turned state witness.

Malabi-Dzhangi said the trial has been moved to December 6, after accused number 6 tested positive for Covid-19.

This is the second time that the trial has been postponed due to Covid-19, with the first postponement in January this year.

Thorisho Themane Foundation spokesperson Kevin Phohotona says the foundation will continue to keep a close eye on the matter.

He says the delays cause a disadvantage to the state as tax payers’ money is being squandered, despite it being out of anyone’s control.
